Is my boyfriend lying about being gay?

Okay so about a year and a half ago my boyfriend and I broke up and we recently got back together.. between the time we broke up and got back together he had this friend named "anthony", well about two weeks ago I saw a message from anthony saying "okay, have fun with her.. can't wait to give you your present" her obviously being me. Being the girl that I am I did my research and yes there is a guy named anthony.. but he lives about an hour away from my boyfriend, he's 25 and he didn't go to the same college as my boyfriend.. every time I bring him up he gets defensive.. am I just freaking out? is he actually gay? or is anthony actually a girl? In need of some opinions asap
