Medela pump...milk not going into bottle?

Okay so my little girl hasn't been born yet but I've been leaking quite a bit of colostrum.  So, I decided to practice using my new medela pump.  The problem is that the colostrum that I pumped was falling down into the breast shield instead of going into the bottle! Then when I took the shield off colostrum gushed down under my breast.  I checked the suction onto my breast and it seems good.  Am I doing something wrong?!
