Waiting, a good or bad idea?

Usually when I like a guy I pretty much sleep with them pretty quickly but every time I've done that they've left after getting what they wanted. I met a guy on Friday and he asked me to go home with him but I told him I want to wait for about 3 months. I got out of a horrible relationship a while ago and wasn't planning on being with anyone for a while but me and this guy have been overly flirty so it feels hard to wait. I mean this guy seems really nice, different from all the others but I'm torn between wanting to and waiting the 3 months.

How long do people usually wait? Does making them wait longer increase the chance of partners staying after getting what they want? Does it make a difference?

Don't make pussy a challenge. Guys can't resist a challange, so if you make your pussy a prize, he's going to treat it as such. What do you do when you win a prize? You go home and tell all your friends & you don't go back to that place because you already won.
In my opinion, it's about establishing respect. If you show a guy all you have to bring to the table is sex, that's all he's going to expect from you. Nothing wrong with being flirty, but don't let that be your predominant behavior. If you lead with sex, that's what they expect. when you contact them later, they'll be confused because they thought you only wanted sex. 
There's no time frame on establishing respect. It may happen after a few days, it may happen after a few months, but a man that respects you will realize you're worth more than sex. Always lead with your strengths. If you can, go on a date that allows you to demonstrate something you're good at, or work together. For example, I went on a date recently to the county fair. There was a huge world puzzle there that was hopelessly unfinished. My date and I knocked it out, and it was a great chance for us to test how well we problem solve together. It was an awesome bonding exercise, and once we had completed it, we felt really good. Later he told me that doing the puzzle together helped him see some qualities in me he really liked. 
When you're talking to a guy, if he tries to steer the conversation towards sex, redirect it to something else if that's not what you want to talk about. If you feel like he's being disrespectful, speak up and say that's not ok. Be honest with yourself realize it's ok to sleep with him, but he may leave.
Sex isn't always detrimental to a new relationship (in fact it can help it right along) but I think there has to be a foundation of respect if you want him to stick around.

TL;DR Make him respect you before you sleep with him, but there's no time frame on it.

He may see the 3 month wait as a challenge and leave anyway but I don't think you should sleep wth guys quickly unless sex is what you're after. I would date them for a while and then do it when it feels right, don't put a timeframe on it.
