School dance

Okay I know this is weir and people are probably gonna say "just wear what you are comfortable in" but I tend to get really really uncomfortable if i'm the only one doing it (I have really bad social anxiety) so I am going to a winter formal at my school and really love dressing up. I know it is socially normal and acceptable to wear a gown/long dress for prom but would it be too formal for me to wear a long dress for my the formal. I haven't found a dress yet I just have been exploring Pinterest and have found more long dresses I love more than the short ones.
