When is combination birth control considered “LATE”?
Hi ladies!! I am a current user of combination birth control pills (21 days of hormones and 7 days of placebos). There’s a lot of different answers out there concerning the topic of “when late is TOO late” when it comes to taking your birth control pill. I’ve read articles upon articles, talked to doctors upon doctors, and I was just wondering what kind of information you ladies have received about the “proper” way of taking your birth control is. I am aware that statistically speaking, the pill is about 99% effective when taken “perfectly” and around 91% effective when taking “typically”. My question, that never seems to have a clear answer is “what is considered ‘perfect use’, and what is the time frame in which you are taking the pill ‘perfectly’”? Within the same hour? Within 3 hours? Within 12 hours? I’ve heard all of these answers in multiple places and I guess I was just wondering if the Gods of medicine and science might know the magical answer as to how I can properly maintain my 99% effectiveness. I mean, we all aren’t perfect, right? Personally, I take my pill at 9:00pm. However, tonight I was out and didn’t take it until 10:30. Did my effectiveness drop? I don’t typically stray away from my “within the hour” routine, but it happens occasionally, well, because life happens. I have been doing this, without ever being more than a couple of hours “late” and so far no scares. I guess I’m just wondering: WHAT IS LATE? Has anyone else had this unthinkable question pop into their heads? What have you heard? Is there a magical answer? 😂 Anyways, just thought I’d share my frustrations with how unclear things have to be. Thoughts, questions, answers? Drop it in the comments, PLEASE ❤️💘
