How do you know the car seat fits?

Still early in my pregnancy but starting to research car seats and what not. When shopping for cart seats how do you know it will fit in your vehicle? I know some are bulkier than others I’ve just always wondered what happens if it doesn’t fit your vehicle safely? Is this one of those situation where you just check the store return policy first, and if it doesn’t fit trade it out?

You can go to babies r us or buy buy baby and they’ll usually let you try them. You can also join car seats for the littles on Facebook and ask them. They can tell you what will fit in your specific car.

Most car seats will fit most cars, but the bulkier ones just might not be very comfortable for the person sitting in the adult seat in front of the car seat. As others mentioned, some stores (like Buy Buy Baby) will let you try the car seat out in your car. Also, when it comes to infant seats, many of them are latch compatible, so you may want to check to see if your car has latch technology, and if not, you’ll want to make sure you get a car seat that’s easy to install even without using the latch option. Most convertible car seats don’t have latch so it doesn’t matter if you’re going that route.

Yeah as far as I know, I think checking the return policy would be your best option. Your car manual should tell you where the car seat should be located (center or side of the back seat) but I think that’s about it. We have the Graco 4ever seat and I love it, but it is pretty bulky and doesn’t allow for much room for the front seats to go back. I have a small SUV (Mazda CX-5)

You can call your cars manufacturer and ask if there is a certain car seat that works best in that car, you can also probably research it online. If your car is brand new and has the air bag seatbelts then there are only a few car seat brands that work with them. But you’ll have to just research it. Also, your cars manual will have the info on where to put the car seat for the best safety in the car so you could check that section out and see if it says anything specific about what type of seat is best.
