Do you give your child a middle name if they have a hyphenated name?

My daughter is due in August and we’re naming her Mary-Hayes Scott.
We don’t know whether we should hyphenate Mary-Hayes and then just leave her without a middle name, or have her first name be Mary and her middle name be Hayes.
Please help, my husband is 0 help 😂😂😂

I would not hyphenate a first name. Separate them into her first and middle names. It can be very difficult to get your name spelled correctly on credit cards, government documents, diplomas, etc.. with any kind in punctuation in the middle of a first name.

My name is hyphenated, Laura-Rose, and I have no middle name. I have always loved having two first names and when I was younger always felt so “special” hahaha. In my adult life people started just calling me just Laura as I met people who I didn’t know in my childhood, but my entire family and my husband call me Laura-Rose still. my first name is Annakate no gap no hyphen either just one word. a lot of people can't say it or spell it. it's just Anna  Kate but it's amazing how wrongly it gets said. I love it though. I would just do first and middle name tbh. our daughter going to have a hyphen in her surname as we are using both of ours.
