FTM: What do I actually need?

I just started a registry with Amazon and Target and it's amazing how everything adds up so quick. Our family and friends are generous but I still want to be practical. What items are worth getting and what isn't? What items can you recommend that are worth the price?

Everyone has the things they love and it varies by person...a lot of times you don't really know until you try things out. I liked using the Amazon registry tool the first time around so I could compare and look at reviews.
The things I really liked beyond the necessities (clothes, diapers, car seat and a place to sleep) are:
Boppy pillow for breastfeeding
A pumping bra (simple wishes)
Nursing pads
A few Medela sanitizing bags for new items
A few muslin swaddle blankets
Sleep sacks after she outgrew swaddling
Baby bum brush for applying diaper cream
Diaper changing pad with a couple of covers
Diaper pail
A baby bathtub
Nose syringe that opens up at the bulb for cleaning (normal ones gross me out...) Or nose frida
Tiny nail clippers
Zutano booties (it's impossible to get most socks/booties to stay on)
Random piece of advice - newborns Hate things going over the head. Rather than onsies, I prefer clothing you can lay them down on and zip or button up. My daughter spent most of her newborn days in sleepers that zip up.

For the newborn stage you could literally just get by with pajamas (with zippers not buttons), swaddles that employ some kind of zipper or Velcro (just anything that isn’t you wrapping and re-wrapping your baby 80 times a night on 1 hour of sleep), lots of burp rags, a baby carrier, a car seat and something for the baby to sleep in - the pack and play with bassinet insert is a great buy because it can last for awhile. 
I didn’t use my stroller until my daughter was 6 months so don’t feel like you have to rush it, I feel like I bought a thousand teether toys and my daughter hates most of them. I got the angel care bathseat and I immediately tossed it, I washed my daughter in the sink and when she got too big I just started getting in her nightly bath with her. I also bought every diaper creme everyone I met recommended, even the pricey stuff and the only thing that has worked for diaper rash, baby acne, cradle cap etc etc is breast milk and coconut oil 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh and diaper bag I recommend a diaper book bag I got one once my son was bit older to get rid of the purse looking one and I saw one that’s a book bag it’s amazing so comfy tooooons is space and has an insulated pocket

Carseat, diaper bag, diapers, wipes, diaper genie, rash cream, bassinet or cosleeper (unless you are bed sharing or going straight to the crib), zipper pjs (when they're so little it's not necessary to buy a bunch of full on outfits), socks, pacifiers if you plan to use them, same with bottles, formula if you're not planning to nurse or pump, crib or bassinet sheets if needed, baby wash and lotion, a swing is always helpful but not a necessity... I know you're trying to be minimal with it, and I THINK that's about everything I actually used constantly when my daughter was first born, besides books. We read to her every night so we have quite a book collection but that's just a personal choice 🤷‍♀️ congratulations on your little one!

I literally got EVERYTHING for my first and man was it a waste of money...this time around I've only purchased a handful of things...I didn't even buy a crib. I'll use our pack & play that literally never got used with my son.
* Crib sheet (that's it. No bumper. No mobile. No comforter)
* Wipe clean changing pad (it's basically a plastic/foam pad that doesn't need a cover, you just wipe it clean)
* Diapers, wipes, butt cream, lotion, all that jazz
* Diaper bag backpack
* Mostly just sleepers and onsies. I don't like pants myself so 🤷
* Carseat and stroller
* Rock & play
* Ergobaby carrier (2nd hand)
* A FEW toys (I have another child...they can share toys for the most part)
..... I think that's it?

The boppy lounger was game changer for us, I would highly recommend it. And a white noise machine and a swing.

Muslin blankets instead of swaddle blankets. He grew out of the swaddle ones within a month and there we were with like 20 of them (we didn’t register for that many). He’s now 10 months and we still use the Muslin ones.

Stroller travel system so you get the car seat with it a crib of course a high chair a swing or bouncer whatever you like a bath tub a jumparo they love these or walker or both if possible a playpen isn’t really necessary I had one I used it home when I was cleaning to he would be alone in the room and they don’t go for to much you don’t need a bottle warmer it’s a waist of life not wipe warmer lol it’s more of a mission than anything of course you need bottles and bottles sets or what not towels and soaps for baby and lotions my little one is now 4 years old but when he was a baby he llllllloved a good lotion rub down after a bath some small toys and things once they are in that age maybe a playmat/tummy time mat
