Boiling pump parts white residue??

Question

I had a steam sterilizer but it broke which is a shame because it also had dryer function. So I have just been boiling to sterilize bottles and pump parts but when I leave them to dry theu get a chalky powdery residue, probably from the hard water in my area. What do you do with it rinse them with water. Does that defeat the purpose of sterilizing? Not so much worried about the bottles being rinsed but the pump parts because I freeze alot of the milk I pump.

I wash with soap and water then bought the Dr Brown microwave sterilizer and none of ours are cloudy! We use Dabble soap that helps get the milk film off a lot better than dish soap!

I have that happen to. I've just rinsed them off with water and scrubbed it off. Yes, it defeats it being sterilized when you add milk but I figure it gets rid of whatever was on the bottle so it would only not be sterilized from the air in your hone rather than something worse like daycare or the mall.

I wash all my parts with warm soapy water- Dawn Dish soap to be exact. And that is it. Once a week or so I will throw them in a medela microwave steam bag. I have 350 oz in the freezer and have never done anything special. Baby was term and healthy and doesn't have any special dietary needs. 
But yes- the white spot is mineral buildup. You can soak them overnight in a pot of water with a cup of white vinegar and the white stuff will come right off.
