Spit up or reflux issue?

Question

Those with children who have reflux- how did you know the difference? My LO is 10 weeks, breastfed, and she’s been spitting up a lot lately, almost after every feed. Sometimes it’s a few hours after a feed. How do I know the difference? I’m also dairy free for a few weeks cause she’s a very gassy baby, so was trying to see if that helped.

If it's been in the stomach and is coming back up (acid reflux) it looks curdled, like flecks of milk in spit almost. Spit up will just look like the milk.

Mine was making faces like he had a very bad taste in his mouth, choking/coughing/really uncomfortable, was waking up due to spitting up and it causing him pain. We had tried gas drops which worked for a while then started making the spitting up and every thing worse, gripe water didn’t help so the doctor finally decided on reflux meds at 2 months. He gets it twice a day and only spits up after we give it more usually an hour or so later but it has helped everything else. Doctor said to give it time and it should help with spit up too.

My dr told me it’s not considered reflux unless they are spitting up so much they are needing to eat 20 minutes after or they are aspirating on it. It’s normal for them to spit up (sometimes a lot) while something in their throat develops.. can’t remember what it is called. It gets better around 4-6 months and meds prior are unnecessary.
