2nd degree tear

I had a 2nd degree tear and vaginal delivery for my second pregnancy. Around 3 weeks pp I felt very well in myself and was back to doing normal day to day activities. Got my 6 weeks appointment next week and was wondering how do they check to see you have fully healed? Do they examine you internally or just check from outside? Also is it safe to have intercourse after 6 weeks appointment? I’m not in any pain but obviously don’t want to cause myself any damage
