Do you think it’s worth reporting a crime if the person is very unlikely to get time for it?

For example you have absolutely no proof, or it happened a long time ago, or both. Is it worth the victim reliving the trauma and going through the stress of its unlikely to change anything?

I think it entirely depends on the crime. I also think it’s entirely up to the persons involved. 
Would I encourage someone to report their neighbor for having a dog off leash in the cul de sac two years ago, No, that would be silly.
Would I encourage someone to report their neighbor for raping them two years ago, yes, yes I would.

I think it’s (usually) up to the victim to decide. Some people find its a part of their healing process even if it brings back the worst memories. It helps empower them. But for others it isn’t the best experience and they end up feeling defeated.

Yes. It all goes into statistics. It’s SO important. About 10% of all crimes are actually reported. However I did not report my rape as it was too traumatic for me. Too much time has passed for me to do anything now and that is my biggest regret

It’s not cut and dry to me. If a victim can handle the potential trauma then at least getting the accusation out there—even if it doesn’t lead to charges, prosecution, or sentencing—might have some impact on the criminal. I would never want to force anyone to do that who couldn’t handle it though.

I’m not sure, I guess depends on the victims. My mum forced me to come forward about rape but I did not want to go to court and speak out in front of strangers about very intimate things, so because I never went through with it, friends turned against me and called me a liar and felt like I should just never have reported it 😞 even calling me a dirty little slut, I have had severe anxiety ever since and I was afraid to ever have sex again.

Well it’s up to the one reporting to say if it’s worth it or not but every case that gets filed has a possibility of justice not being served. At the same time, it also has a possibility of something happening. Every case. People take the gamble everyday.

That's my situation. 
I didn't. I have troubles speaking about it to people who I love, and to this day I haven't gotten professional psychological help because I'm not sure if I could handle reliving everything. I don't think I could do it for strangers, several times. I don't think I could involve my close family through this pain either. I don't think I could handle people telling me I was lying either.

Yes, if they investigate, they could find out this individual was involved in other crimes and build a case to bring them to justice.
