Epidural

This is my first pregnancy and i know i still have A long ways to go (7more months). I am thankful that i am pregnant, but i am so scared of labor. Im scared i wont be able to stand the contractions without the epidural. I am scared of injections and the thought of a long needle being poked into my back is not something i can get over. Any advice? Does it hurt?
