UTI in pregnancy

Anna

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and have been feeling really run down and generally unwell. I phoned the hospital and spoke with a midwife who advised I see my GP as she wasn't concerned with anything pregnancy related but said I may be coming down with something.

My GP did a urine strip test indicating it was highly likely I have a urine infection despite no symptoms. It was too late in the day to send the sample for further testing but she was fairly confident it was a UTI.

She prescribed antibiotics aware of my worries about taking any kind of medication during pregnancy. It was explained to me that the prescription was safe in pregnancy and an infection could potentially cause early labour if not treated.

Understanding the risks I feel I should take the antibiotics but there's still a part of me anxious about any adverse affects on baby. I've been a worrier throughout this pregnancy so this is just one more thing that's got me going. Anyone had a similar experience?
