Just needed to vent :( LONG POST

So awhile back a friend messaged me saying she had one more pup in the litter and they needed to find her a home. I immediately agreed, who wouldn’t want a cute little pup?! She is a German Shorthair/Walker. We didn’t research the breed before hand and this is the start of my horror story.

The puppy would not sleep at night, she would sit up and howl all night long until you put her in bed with you. This wouldn’t have been a problem but we found out the hard way that she was a bed wetter.

Fast forward Potty training is getting better. She knows that she's supposed to go outside but she hates the snow and she doesn't know how to tell us that she needs to go. Crate training is also going better, she is sleeping in her crate most of the night.

We take her to get her spayed and find out she is a car puker. I go to pick her up where I am told my puppy is a hermaphrodite.

We have a fenced in yard but eventually she started digging and escaping out the fence and running. We bought her a trolley system so that she still had free range of the yard but couldn’t get out. We went through at least 3 trolley leashes and several collars as she chewed them off and would escape. She did not like being inside. She’s a very energetic and high strung dog. She would have to be outside or kenneled up is anyone cane over or they would leave because she can’t handle herself.

We decided that a shock collar might help us with this battle. You could put that baby all the way up too 100 and shock her and she would just keep running without even flinching. She ended up chewing that up too.

We are at our wits end with this dog and decide to get another dog for her to play with. This just caused a bigger problem. She started chewing my walls and ripping trim off my walls.

Things were getting better for a while and we thought we had conquered the beast.

Fast forward a bit and she begins pooping and peeing in the house again. All dogs have accidents right? This dog will go both numbers on the floor and smear it around the entire house with her paws.

Shortly after she began doing the same thing in her crate at night. I still can’t get the shit smell out of my home.

At this point we have given her many chances. At one point she ran away and when I caught her she ripped my pants completely off.

We decided to rehome her. We get everything all set up and end up backing out because we love her and couldn’t give up yet.

Fast forward to yesterday when she not only nipped at me but proceeded to run away and attack our neighbors (across the road) chickens and duck.

I am really sad to say I ended up having to rehome my fur baby and I am really upset and trying to cope with it. Someone please tell me I did the right thing.

*the people we got her from took her back. They are hunting dogs and there they have free range to run. She is with her mom and brothers again. We can visit her whenever we want and they will return her to us if we decide we made a mistake. I’m trying not to feel like a loser but I do. I loved her and she deserved a better life.
