So I’ve lived in the same house my whole life (18 years) but it’s not been until I’ve gotten older that I’ve started to realise that my mum probably needs help. She hoards pretty bad and has done my whole life but she refuses to let anyone throw anything. We got a skip once and she got inside it crying and taking things out. The state of my house is honestly awful, the carpets have been neglected totally. They’re all chewed up and absolutely covered in stains. I got a carpet cleaner to come and evaluate and even he said they beyond repair. There is actual mould growing all over her bathroom walls but she will not do anything about it no matter how many times I’ve asked her too. When my own boyfriend asked if he could have a shower i had to say no and was so embarrassed I didn’t know what excuse to even say. It’s the most depressing place to come home too and its destroying mine and my mums relationship. She has to be bullied into doing any cleaning or tidying and if I mention us getting new carpets she can’t afford it. She can’t afford to live in a 5 bedroom house with just the three of us and that’s with us giving her money as well. She’s just stopped getting money off my dad as I’m 18 and I know she can’t cope, she couldn’t afford anything when she was still getting the money. But she refuses to look for new jobs or sell the house and downsize. The list of problems is endless. I don’t know what I can do, I can’t afford to move out. Does anyone have any advice or is there anyone dealing with the same sort of issue that could speak to me?
