Type 1 diabetic meals

My partner (28) was recently diagnosed as being type 1 diabetic two weeks ago. He’s struggling to control his glucose levels even with eating the appropriate foods and weighing it out.

For instance he had a small bowl of porridge (30g) with soya milk. His levels went from being in a hypo (3.3) to all the way up to hyper (20.2).

It’s confusing as the doctors and diabetic nurse has recommended porridge for breakfast but it seems to spike up his levels even though he doesn’t add sugar, it’s a whole grain one and doesn’t add fruit.

Could it be just his body getting used to the change in diet and insulin?

Obviously it’s extremely stressful as he feels he isn’t getting anywhere following the advice.

Just hoping anyone has any meal plans or advice for foods?! We read all labels and measure it out 😩
